I was on my way to meet my mom at work Tuesday afternoon when 6 fire trucks, 2 fire chiefs car's, and 4 police cars went past my bus stop. I figured there was some big fire a ways away. I never thougt it was the old Albina Fuel Company building on 33rd and Broadway.
A hgue plume of smoke filled the sky as more than 60 firemen swarmed the area in a frantic attempt to get control of the fire before it had a chance to spread to nearby buildings. News reports say that around 300 people watched the smoke billow, since that was all anyone outside the building could really see. I was only one of a handfull of people there-other than news crews of course-pushing the police lines as much as I could, and I think it paid off.
